The massive restructuring of the world's air networks will continue apace through 2010, which means your attendance at World Routes in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada is even more critical to the success of your airline, airport or tourism authority.
In these diffi cult economic times it is critical that airports fi ght to retain existing traffi c and win new air services.

The competition for air services and the strategic benefi ts they bring has never been greater and airports are having to present their market to airlines in ever more innovative ways.

World Routes 2010 holds the key.

The 16th World Route Development Forum is the 2010 meeting place for the world's route development industry.

A place where every type of airline, airport or tourism authority from every continent can meet face-to-face in a single location, whether they are a fl ag or a low cost carrier, hub or regional airport. All at a fraction of the time and cost of the airports visiting carriers individually.

Moreover, at a time when the whole industry is planning for the future, it's only fi tting that the World Routes 2010 event should be held in Vancouver – host of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and one of the world's youngest and most dynamic, inspiring and stimulating cities.

So if you want to develop new air services, protect existing ones and shape the very future of international aviation route development, don't miss this chance to book your place at World Routes 2010.

SOULD OUT

This year’s BAG Annual Dinner will be held on Thursday 23 September at the prestigious ‘One Whitehall Place’, a venue steeped in history and with elegant decor - including Europe’s largest cantilevered marble staircase – and exceptional facilities. The address is legendary and the Board is confident that it is of sufficient standing to prove an attraction to Members and their Guests. The primary reason for this change of venue is to increase capacity as the success and demand from industry to attend this event has been over subscribed for the past 4 years running. Our pre-dinner champagne reception, sponsored by Atkins, will start at 18:30 and take place in the Reading & Writing Room’ boasting splendid architecture, arresting murals and stunning views of the Whitehall Gardens and the Thames. This will be followed by a 3 course dinner in the Gladstone Library which was originally furnished with over 20,000 books and has now been carefully restored to its former glory. Mr Declan Collier, Chief Executive, Dublin Airport Authority plc, has accepted our invitation to be our After-Dinner Speaker.

The event is black tie/evening gown and the entry price will be £165 + VAT per person or £1550 + VAT per table of 10 which includes the Champagne reception, 3-course meal with plenty of wine, coffee and liqueurs. Although BAG hasn't entered into any contractual arrangements with nearby hotels, the following hotels are of good standing and are in close proximity and we do have a general rate, please quote ‘A|D|S’ when making bookings.

A|D|S has corporate rates at two London hotels nearby – Park Plaza Riverbank and Park Plaza County Hall.

Park Plaza Riverbank is £130 per room per night + VAT (breakfast not included).

27/09/2010 - UKTI RENEWABLES TRADE MISSION TO MEXICO

Background information on the market

Renewable energy sector in Mexico

With oil reserves rapidly declining and a high vulnerability to the effects of climate change, Mexico has made strong commitments towards the reduction of carbon emissions and the promotion of renewable energies and energy efficiency measures as part of a long term sustainable development strategy. Under the National Infrastructure Programme, the Mexican Government is planning to increase power generation capacity from renewable resources including hydro power plants from 14% to 25%, by 2012. A substantial number of projects need to be developed in order to achieve this goal. As a consequence, in November 2008 a strategic energy reform which included a new Law for the Use of Renewable Energies and the Financing of the Energy Transition as well as a Law for Sustainable Use of Energy were passed. Also, since 2004, a federal tax incentive has been introduced to prevent pollution and promote technological development of renewable energies through accelerated depreciation of the equipment (up to 100% in one year).

Apart from its excellent renewable energy resources and generation potential, Mexico has the ability to become a key provider of equipment and components for the North American Market. Considering Mexico’s privileged geographic location, free trade agreement with the US, EU and Canada and a strong legal framework to support renewable to support renewable energy projects, this represents unprecedented opportunities for British investors.

Application forms should be returned as soon as possible to ensure your place on this mission and in any event no later than September 10 th, 2010

18/10/2010 - BAG Airport Sector mission to China and Hong Kong

Following on from the BAG Airport Sector mission to China and Hong Kong in September 2009, UKTI has commissioned BAG to organize a follow up mission which will take place from 18 – 22 October 2010. It is proposed that the mission will visit Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The primary objective of the visit is to promote British skills and technology in the airport development sector but it will also provide the opportunity for participants to develop existing, and establish new, relationships with key Chinese airport sector contacts and to learn about the opportunities for their products/services at Chinese airports.

China:

In 2009, the airports in China provided services for over 120 airlines, with 486.06 million passenger/times (increased by 19.79% over 2008), 9.456million tons of cargo and mail (increased by 7.04%), and 4.841 million (increased by 14.52%) for aircraft take-off and landing.
By the end of 2009, there were 166 commercial (certificated) airports in mainland China (exclusive Hong Kong and Macao), 165 provide regular flights connecting 163 cities. The 33 of these airports can accommodate B747 aircraft. There are 14 airports with annual passenger throughput of over 10 million person-times, 4 more than 2008.

According to “China Civil Airport Layout Plan”, there will be over 70 new airports to be built in the next 10 years. Total numbers for airports in China, by 2015, will be 220 and 270 by 2020 (including 2 more global/international air hubs) and 300 for 2030 (including 3 more global/international air hubs).

For this visit the CAAC has indicated that the following two areas of capability are of particular interest (but please note that we are waiting for final confirmation on all areas of interest to CAAC):

• Emergency rescue (including fire)
• Safe operation

Hong Kong:

As of 31 March 2010, around 90 airlines operated from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). These carriers serve nearly 150 destinations, including around 40 cities on the Mainland.

The Airport Authority (AA) Hong Kong will embark on a midfield expansion project. Phase 1 of this project comprises a new midfield passenger concourse of 20 aircraft parking stands (of which 11 are served by bridges) with associated apron facilities and an automatic people mover link, with target completion in 2015. Phase 2 envisages the expansion of midfield concourse to up to 20 bridge-served stands by 2020, together with another row of 10 remote stands west of the concourse. Preliminary design of Phase 1 has been completed whilst detailed design will soon commence.

The longer term strategic developments of the airport, which will include a third runway, will be contained in HKIA 2030 Master Plan that is about to be finalised. Once completed, AA will carry out an extensive public consultation and engagement process.

The mission programme has therefore been developed to enable UK participants to target opportunities at the above 5 airports; and the CAAC will provide an official to accompany the missioners on the programme where possible.

To participate in this mission please complete the attached form and return it to Gen Richards before Thursday 30 September 2010 either by email on gen.richards@britishaviationgroup.co.uk or by fax on 020 7091 4545.
